Acura Collision Mitigation Braking System

Acura is more than a luxury brand. Acura vehicles are engineered, crafted, and tried to confirm only the highest quality and most advanced safety features on the road today are used to protect you and your loved ones. At Erin Mills Acura, we believe it is equally important to consider the safety features available in your

new car search as well as all other available options and features. Collision Mitigation Braking System is an intuitive safety feature found in Acura that helps deliver safer travels.

What Is Acura Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)?

CMBS is a self-directed radar-based emergency braking system included in the AcuraWatch Package. To help lessen the probability or severity of a frontal impact, the Collision Mitigation Braking System uses both a high-resolution forward camera and a radar system to identify hazards such as pedestrians or vehicles. This system can utilize up to 80% of your braking power to evade or reduce impact with a sensed object.

How Does The Acura Collision Mitigation Braking System Work?

CMBS uses a front-fixed camera and radar to observe traffic conditions ahead. If the vehicle in front of you abruptly stops, or a pedestrian is spotted in the vehicle's path, CMBS signals the driver. The CMBS system has three alert stages. Based on varying circumstances or differing CMBS settings, all stages may not occur before the final stage is initiated.

Stage 1: When the primary risk of impact is detected. CMBS releases an audible and visual warning, prompting the driver to take remedial action.

Stage 2: If the driver does not act on the warning and the distance between the front of the vehicle and the object detected to minimized, the CMBS will continue its audible and visual alarms while lightly applying brake pressure. This stage is intended to offer sensory warnings, alerting the driver to take action.

Stage 3: If a collision is imminent and the driver has not taken action, CMBS continues the audible and visual alerts and applies brake pressure with more pressure to help the driver avoid the collision. When this stage begins, CMBS tenses the front seat occupants' seatbelts to prepare for a possible crash.
